ACC Sensitive Claims Assessment By A Psychiatrist Form

I want an ACC sensitive claims assessment by a psychiatrist.

Commonly a psychiatrist will be required to do your supported assessment if you have had previous mental health diagnosis or have a complex presentation.

It is also advisable to have your supported assessment done by a psychiatrist(or approved clinical psychologist) if you also want to apply for loss of earnings/incapacity assessment, at the same time. This saves you from going through two assessments.

Referral for treatment. Your case manager either contacts us or you contact us to choose an assessor or therapist and we contact the case manager on your behalf. We will have a chat with you before this happens.

ACC Support Following A Physical Injury

I want information about psychological help after I have had an injury.

Refer, Mental Injury Assessments published by ACC.

What is a mental injury?

From ACC website.

“a clinically significant behavioural, cognitive or psychological dysfunction” (s27).

ACC can provide cover for mental injury arising from:

• Sexual abuse (sensitive claims),

• A covered physical injury,

• A work-related traumatic incident, and

• Treatment injury.

If you have had an accident and you have developed PTSD, depression, anxiety or other related issue as a result of your injury, you will be referred for a psychological assessment and they will create a plan for you. You will get a mental injury diagnosis and they will make treatment recommendations. You will then receive treatment.

Referral for an assessment

This is done through your ACC case manager, who refers you to an assessor or treatment provider (therapist).

However, if you know of someone who you want to be referred to, have a specific request about a provider (ethnicity/gender  etc), or you want to discuss these options with us, please email

Please contact your well check coordinator and ask them to refer you to one of our providers.

I am a police officer, and I am looking for trauma treatment

Support is available following a traumatic incident and /or stress/burnout or a referral via a well check.

You can access treatment through the trauma contract. We have a number of clinical psychologists who provide trauma treatment for the Police.
